How we tell someone's story
- We talk to them first. In person or on the phone, never pieced together from someone else's post.
- Quotes are their words. Trimmed for length, never changed in meaning.
- They know how it'll be used. Before anything is published, they know where it's going.
- Oral histories only with consent. Recordings are made with permission, and the family gets a copy.
- Photos with permission. Nobody's face goes up without a yes.
